Malformed lossless output on transparent gradient

I came across this off-case where using -s9 but possibly other modes as well, it turns a black gradient on transparent background into just a black and white non-transparent seperation.

Strange, here they are again.

Looks like it considers this alpha empty(?) and converts it to greyscale. Using -noalpha flag prevents it from happening.
